Anya Ettinger said the listing paints a "grim" picture of housing affordability in major cities. But, according to the listing, you wouldn't just be sharing the apartment space — you'd be sharing a queen-sized bed too. According to Ettinger, listings like this one are a result of the affordable housing crisis in Toronto. But as of today, Ettinger said the listing she discovered is just another example of how severe the housing crisis is. "It just paints a very grim picture of the affordability crisis that we're experiencing here," she said.

A TikTok video appeared to show someone in Toronto listing half a bed to rent for $650 a month. The latest sign that "hot bedding" — sharing a bed with a stranger to save money on rent — is on the rise. In a TikTok posted last month, Toronto-based realtor Anya Ettinger highlighted a post on Facebook Marketplace that appeared to show someone offering to rent out half a bed in exchange for 900 Canadian dollars ($650) a month. "Just when you thought the Toronto market couldn't get any worse, it did," Ettinger says in the TikTok video. The upheaval at Documenta is just one example of how Europe’s art world is being torn by debates about Israel and Gaza, as some institutions have moved to postpone the shows of artists who have criticized Israel. Documenta was initially staged in 1955 as the first large-scale exhibition in West Germany of the art of the European avant-garde. It was a direct response to the Degenerate Art Show, the denunciatory exhibition of modern art staged by the Nazis in Munich in 1937. Although the mural was taken down, it set off a monthslong debate in Germany’s art world about antisemitism, Palestinian activism and Germany’s relationship to formerly colonized countries. Hoskote said Documenta was one of the art world’s greatest events, partly because it had always been a forum for new ideas.

AdvertisementThe 1920s saw huge changes for women. World War I saw women flocking to work, taking over the jobs of men who had gone to war. No longer constricted by tight corsets and large, frilly skirts, the style of the 1920s woman was loose and comfortable. The right to vote solidified some women's new position in society — however, it would still be decades before all women could vote.
